AUSTRALIA 2013

Welcome to Sydney!

On our flight in we almost ended up being diverted to Melbourne due to severe fog in Sydney, however we were lucky and were one of the only flights to land that morning. This helped us avoid a nasty detour and overland journey back to Sydney which would have wasted both time and effort.

Upon arriving in Sydney we were surprised by just how cold it was having previously heard that it never gets cold in Australia. I think this was compounded by the us having been in 30-35 celsius mean during the previous four months and our lack of proper winter clothing. We were glad however to be back in civilisation even if that did mean that everything cost a lot more. We were also surprised to find that on average everything in Australia is 40% more expensive than it is at home in the UK. We were however amazed at the variation of of chocolate on offer here and the bizarrely limited drink options.

Sydney

We spent a relatively short time in Sydney but felt that it was long enough to see everything worth seeing which wasn't a rip off and manage to fit in some shopping so that we could replace our worn out clothing.

During our time in Sydney we visited many of the malls and food courts and managed to visit the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and the Botanical Gardens. We also managed to have some quite nice weather with limited rain during our time here.

We left Sydney on a flight to Hobart where we planned to start our Tasmanian adventure.
