BORNEO 2011

Welcome to Borneo!

After the worst landing we've ever had (that is really saying something) we were glad to be alive. As we were coming into land at about 150ft above the ground the pilot suddenly issues full throttle and pulls up violently. A few minutes later we were informed that there had been another plane on the runaway that we were about to land on. How on earth we were 20 seconds for landing on another aircraft is beyond my understanding, but hey just don't fly with Dragon Air if you value your life.

Kota Kinabalu

Upon arriving in Kota Kinabalu we were transferred via private taxi to our hotel. Luxury doesn't quite sum up our hotel. It was quiet, peaceful and partially deserted. The weather was gorgeous and the water beautiful. The hotel we were staying at was only one of two places that tourists could witness Orangutans in their natural environment. This was because our hotel was located on the edge of the rain forest on the opening to the beach. On the first day here we booked ourselves in for the next available viewing of the Orangutans. This was a magical experience. We also went on a full day outing to see the Silver Leaf Monkeys and river fire flies. We spent most of the rest of our short time in Borneo relaxing, but we did manage to fit in a private boat tour of the river where we stopped at a local river gypsy house for coffee, biscuits and some of their history.

This is where we ended our travels. From here we returned via 16 hour flight to the UK.

The End!
