THE COOK ISLANDS 2013

Welcome to The Cook Islands!

Upon arriving in the Cook Islands we were surprised to find that the airport had been built in the middle of a community of houses and that the terminal was smaller than the plane. Needless to say we were the only plane at the terminal which only had two gates and we disembarked onto the tarmac before walking through the airport.

Upon arriving at our hotel they had no record of our reservation even though we had emailed ahead to confirm it. After several hours we were put up in a sub-standard room with $80 worth of free wifi and a bottle of wine. The next morning we were moved to a fantastic room in a quiet location which had a sand area with chairs which looked out over the ocean.

During our time in the Cook Islands the weather was tropical and we had a couple of days where they experienced near monsoon levels of rain. On the whole though the weather was good and not too hot. We enjoyed riding the island bus around the island of Raratonga which only took 1 hour to loop the entire island and we managed to explore every corner and beach on the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and the Polynesian way of life is very laid back and they have some very nice pearls. We also found the best Infinity pool in the world as far as I am concerned! ;)

From here we left on the once a week flight to LAX (Los Angeles). This is where we planned to start our third road trip by driving across the United States of America.
