ZIMBABWE 2014

Welcome to Zimbabwe!

Victoria Falls

Zimbabwe, we weren't sure about coming here. It would be an expensive day trip across the border from Botswana at 70 USD per person. We also weren't sure how we felt about funding President Mugabe's government. In the end though we decided to bite the bullet as we knew we might never come back or be so close to Zimbabwe again in our travels and even if we did or were to would we be close enough to visit the Victoria Falls again, perhaps not. We'd also passed up an opportunity earlier in our yearly travels to cross illegally into Paraguay and had regretted not doing so.

In our opinion the Zambian side of the falls offered a lot more paths and things to explore than the Zimbabwe side and really unless you are trying to tick of all the countries in the world I'd have said you can see most of the impressive sights of the falls just from Botswana or the bridge that marks the divide between the countries. With all that being said though we had a fun time exploring the falls again from the Zimbabwe side and they were no less impressive from here. We also got to see up close some idiot tourists who were risking life standing too close to the falls and also undertaking an African bungie jump from the bridge separating the countries. Old unkept rope, tied by untrained staff in countries with little safety regulation or checks. That was a hard pass from me. After viewing the falls we passed back into Zambia by foot before heading out to Botswana.

From here we hopped into what would be our last country on our epic round the world trip. We'd come further than we could have imagined, but from here it would be Botswana and then back to the UK.
