SWITZERLAND 2024

Welcome to Switzerland!

Switzerland, not the first place anyone thinks of when you say exciting. We'd both briefly popped through Switzerland before and had not overly though about coming back, however it was a good base for us to perform this four country lake side road trip. Even if the car rental, flights and lots of other things had cost a lot. At least we did get a very nice and modern car rental. The least that could be done for our long wait to collect the rental at the airport.

Although the flight in had been expensive we were at least given fresh Swizz chocolate and Swiss alpine water. The views of the mountains out the plane window were also spectacular.

Mount Titlis

To make the journey round the lake and through Switzerland more exciting we'd taken a detour to Mount Titlis. The site of the world's highest suspension bridge "Cliff Walk". This site requires a drive into the swiss alps and then two cable cars up, the last being a revolving one which provides everyone 360° views. Once up at the site there is the suspension bridge, a snowed area to walk around, and then the glacier cave. It is very expensive and full of tourists but also something fun to do for a few hours. Just be aware it can be very cold at the top as it sits at 3020 metres. We also got to drive by Lake Lucerne both on the way there and back towards Zurich.

Zurich, Countryside & Driving

Zurich, we didn't expect much. Our plan to view a few sights in the old town and then fetch dinner before heading to the airport for our late flight home. The weather held off for us and we had a nice little tour of the sights followed by stopping at the Guinness world record holding world's oldest vegetarian restaurant. The food here was more buffet, but all of it amazing and great for anyone with allergies as everything is listed out by symbol and english words.

Zurich marked the end of our dual european road trip. This had been a first for us and had had its challenges not least how to pack carry on only for hot southern europe and much milder western europe. Only made more difficult by our plan to head up the Swiss Alps. Would we do it again, perhaps if the trips made sense to combine and overall there was cost savings.

The End!
