UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 2013

Welcome to Utah!

Upon changing state in America you notice a sudden change in both the quality of the roads and often the speed limits imposed. Upon entering Utah the speed limits increased and the road conditions got worse. Utah was one of the best states on our road trip due to the number of national & state parks on offer and diversity between them and the differing areas of the state. During our travels around America we left and re-entered the state of Utah on 3 occasions in order to see the differing sights both in Utah and the surrounding states.

Zion National Park

Our first stop in the state of Utah was the Zion National Park. We didn't really stop here as it was late in the afternoon and there is severely limited parking available. We did however enjoy a drive through which provided ample opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the park. The drive involved endless switchbacks and hairpin bends followed by numerous tunnels. Having come from Nevada through the valley of fire national park this led to a beautiful end to our days travel.

Red Canyon Park

The Red Canyon Park was something that we just happened to stumble upon on route to the Bryce Canyon National Park. Boy were we glad we did. Although it didn't have a lot to offer what it did offer was amazing from vivid red arches which you had to drive through to unique structures and balancing rocks. The Red Canyon led us to have a better day than one could've hoped for on top of the Bryce Canyon National Park.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Shortly after leaving the Red Canyon Park we arrived at the Bryce Canyon National Park. During our time here we visited almost every stop on offer. The first few Natural Bridges, Lookout points and Canyons really blew us away and that was before we even saw the eagle and the balancing rocks. However Bryce Point was the best place in the national park. The views from here were spectacular, mesmerising and delusional. It really was a special place and one of our favourites out of all the things we visited in the USA.

Bear Lake, Church Rock & Wilson's Arch

Bear Lake, Church Rock and Wilson's Arch were all sites that we just passed by on route to other places. Having said that Wilson's Arch was one that we were really glad not to miss since it was a beautiful arch which we were able to climb up and through. It provided awesome views of the surrounding valleys and canyons and was truly a unique experience to Utah. I've not seen anywhere else in the world that this is possible in such a beautiful and quiet setting.

The Arches National Park

The Arches National Park was a very unique park even for Utah. We found that the arches on offer were not as good as Wilson's Arch, but that the rest of the parks unique rock shapes, colour and compactness more than made up for this. We saw things from rock formations appearing to be a parade of elephants to more balancing rocks and a cove of caves.

Salt Lake City

We visited Salt Lake City on route to Jackson, Wyoming where we were headed next in order to visit Yellowstone national park. During our time here we did some shopping and visited some of the Mormon churches in the area. It is safe to say that the Mormon's are a very different breed.

Having seen all that Utah had to offer we headed into Wyoming in the hope of visiting Yellowstone National Park.
