The state of extremely low speed limits and slow drivers. We also found the state to be extremely green with luscious forests. We also made the mistake of taking the scenic route and got stuck behind an old man who was actually following the speed limits for hours with no ability to overtake. The best word to describe it is painful.
After a much longer than anticipated drive it had already been a long day by the time we got here. To be honest we kind of thought, we did all that for these faces carved into this rock. There wasn't even a walk available or anything. On top of this we had to buy a years parking ticket in order to enter. The only saving grace was that we could what the sunset over the faces and the differing contrast on them as it did so.
The next morning we headed on towards Illinois. On route we again decided to take the detour through the Badlands National Park even though we had an 8 hours 400 mile drive to do today. Boy were we glad that we did take the scenic route. This is cowboy country and the jaggedness of the cliffs and the multiple colours would have to make this one of the most unexpected gems that we came across in America. We had no expectations and were thoroughly blown away by what we witnessed. I think the pictures can take this one from here. :)
Having finished almost all the national and state parks that we had planned to visit we now had the long road to New York State. I believe it was around 1,000 miles from here to Niagara Falls with little of worth seeing or doing. Next stop a brief break in Chicago, Illinois.
